About me

Pauline Straw

MA BSc (Hons) PGDip Counsellor and Psychotherapist Right Time 2 Talk

Hello, my name is Pauline. I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist. I am friendly, caring, and professional in my therapeutic practice. I provide a range of accessible counselling platforms for young adults and adults from my private practice in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire. This includes face-to-face, online, and walk-and-talk therapy.

I offer an integrative approach that draws on humanistic modalities including existential, person-centered, solution-focused, goal-setting and gestalt therapies. Research has shown that a solution-focused goal-setting approach brings about positive outcomes in psychological therapy (Law and Cooper, 2018). APA PsycNet Cited By Search Results

Metaphor, and narrative are powerful ways of picturing where you are and reframing the future. I encourage you to become creative. If appropriate, I will offer psychoeducation within a session to help to explain what may be happening in your process. This flexible framework provides a safe space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in order to achieve the best outcome to suit your individual needs.

I offer single session, short and long-term therapy.  My areas of experience are wide-ranging, including bereavement and different types of loss; anxiety; depression; trauma; abuse; suicidal feelings; and neurodiversity. I can help you to understand and improve your relationships and your own well-being.

I trained at York St John University and I am a registered member of the BACP and abide by their professional code of ethics. My clients value the anonymity and confidentiality I offer through my professional practice. I am fully insured and regularly update my skills and qualifications through continual professional development (CPD) training days. I undergo monthly supervision and am DBS checked.

I have worked as a volunteer counsellor at Pickering Medical Centre, York Mind and York St John Communities Centre at York St John University and continue to volunteer at the Next Steps Mental Health Charity based in Kirkbymoorside.

Before becoming a counsellor, I trained as a registered general nurse. I have also worked in Special Needs Education with young people. I taught English as a foreign language when we lived overseas. This experience helps me maintain a holistic perspective on well-being.

Initially, I offer a free consultation, which establishes what you want to achieve from therapy, and which method of access you would prefer and we can decide if we would like to work together.

I work from Rest Relax and Restore Kirkbymoorside, and offer Walk-and-Talk and online therapy.
