FAQ's

Counselling and psychotherapy can benefit anyone who is facing difficulties and believes that talking to a professional therapist will help.

Sometimes small issues can slowly build and become overwhelming without us immediately being aware of this. This can have a domino effect on other areas of our lives.

Common symptoms include changes in our energy levels, sleep patterns, appetite, and mood. We may feel increasingly irritable and have mood swings; perhaps we can find it difficult to focus at work; we may withdraw or become impatient with family and friends; we may lose pleasure in the things that we previously enjoyed and not feel like our usual selves anymore.

These are all signs that indicate something is off, and it is at this point that we usually hope for change, or we reach out for help.  Research has shown that acute stress can cause long-term physical and mental health issues: Acute stress and subsequent health outcomes: A systematic review – PubMed (nih.gov)

Each person has different needs. While some people require only a few sessions, others may benefit from continuing for longer. I offer single sessions, short and long-term work depending on your individual needs. We can discuss this at our first meeting, and as you progress, we can review your situation at regular intervals.

My clinic is in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire
The therapy hour is 50 minutes.
Initially, we will have a confidential telephone or online consultation where we explore your reasons for wanting to start therapy. We will then decide between us whether counselling/psychotherapy is right for you. We can also discuss your expectations, understanding, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. We can then explore how you can gain better awareness and insight into how we deal with the difficulties you are facing and decide whether to begin working together.

I integrate several counselling approaches into my practice, which include person-centered, Gestalt, Existential, and solution-focused therapy to meet your individual needs. I often use metaphor, and narrative as these are powerful ways of picturing where you are, reframing your past and re-imagining your future. Research has shown that a solution-focused goal setting approach brings about positive outcomes in psychological therapy (Law and Cooper, 2018). You may prefer a pluralistic approach of exploratory sessions with psychoeducation and goal setting. Each person has a unique perspective on life and how they deal with their own issues.

I offer a flexible approach within which we can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in order to achieve the best outcome to suit your individual needs. To facilitate this, I offer easy-to-access therapy platforms.
